Leaving a Lasting Impact: Naming Opportunities in Barsema Hall

Google. Starbucks. Doritos. iPod. Warren. Most of us are careful to select just the right name for something, whether it's a baby, a pet, a company, or a product. We do so because we know that names have a lasting impact. That's why organizations and individuals have demonstrated their commitment and support of the NIU College of Business by naming a space within Barsema Hall. There are currently 23 named spaces, adorned with a plaque as a reminder to students that they are affiliated with successful alumni and organizations like Tony and Chris Speiser, Clemens Ciupke and family, Allstate, and KPMG, to name a few.

Distinguished Donors, Mel & Natalie Simon, named a room with the hopes that a visible symbol of their support would encourage students to also pay it forward one day.

See who made their mark in Barsema Hall and what naming opportunities still remain. >

When naming a space, the donor can specify to what area(s) of the college they would like their contribution to go (student services, technology, or faculty development).

For more information please contact Anthony D'Andrea, Director of Development and Senior Gift & Estate Planning Officer at (815) 753-1736.

Distinguished Donor Profile - Mel & Natalie Simon

Mel & Natalie Simon - Barsema Room DedicationIn 2006, Mel Simon (1968 B.S. Accountancy), accepted an invitation to come back to NIU and take a tour of Barsema Hall. It had been a number of years since having any involvement with his alma mater, and while back on campus he was "stirred." Mel explains, "After meeting with the Accountancy Department Chair and Crowe Horwath Professor of Accounting, Jim Young, along with various professors and instructors within the department, I was motivated to give back in some way. I wanted to do something meaningful, but I had yet to discover just what that was."
